COVID-19 Update

Last Update 22 July 2021

General

The guidelines that are published by the government and the RIVM (national institute for public health and the environment) may lead to changes in the protocol.

The guidelines that are published by WUR can be more restrictive and detailed than the ones of the RIVM.

The next update will probably be posted in mid-August.

First and foremost, we stress that the basic measures to mitigate the spread of the virus remain in effect until further notice. Wash your hands regularly, maintain a 1.5-metre distance from others. If you have corona-related symptoms, stay at home and get tested.

1.5 meters, or face mask

As WUR employees, we are jointly responsible for protecting ourselves, our colleagues and our students during our work.

  • Face masks are no longer mandatory when moving through a building. However, the social distancing requirement remains in effect. So, please wear a face mask if there is a chance people may not keep sufficient distance.

  • Use the self-tests twice a week.

Working from home

Following the debate in the House of Representatives about Corona on July 14, the Cabinet has decided that as of July 19, 2021, the advice will be to work from home again, unless there is really no other option. This advice is adopted for working at WUR. In concrete terms, this often means that office work is mainly done from home. Look for the most recent measures on this page with the WUR protocol.

Self-testing

The option to order Self-tests is still available via www.zelftestonderwijs.nl/ You can also find (self-service) containers with self-tests at WUR locations. Instead, Higher Education will receive self-tests from the government/OCW for dissemination. These will be distributed by WUR itself from 1 August. There will be (self-service) containers for this at each WUR location. As soon as the inventory has been completed, we will inform you where these self-service bins will be placed.

Maximum group size and events

As of 26 June, there are no longer any restrictions for group size, neither indoors nor outdoors. Indoors the MCC is the leading factor (both at room level as for the entire building). Outside, the 1.5-metre distancing rule remains in effect. Booking rooms/spaces in advance, through the normal procedures, is necessary.

For larger gatherings (outside as well) the following applies:

  • Guests seated 1.5 metres apart

  • Registration and health check

  • One or more people in the organising team to be appointed as corona stewards to monitor compliance with the rules.

(Deparment) Meetings, inside and outside, are allowed again. The maximum Corona capacity determines the number of participants.

Requests for outdoor gatherings may be sent to the Servicedesk Facilities

Registration for courses Period 1-6.

From June 1st onwards the course registration for all periods, so period 1 to 6 for the Academic Year 2021/2022 has been opened. Registration is possible on Osiris. The registration deadline for the courses in period 1 is the 8th of August, see this link for all deadlines. The extended deadline for new MSc students does not apply to you, as this only applies to students that newly arrive in Wageningen. We urge you to register yourself now to allow your teachers to properly prepare for the courses next year.

myWURtoday

myWURtoday will inform you on your personal schedule (via TimeEdit), your courses (via Brightspace) and your grades (via Osiris). It shows you the WUR-news of the day and informs you with important announcements about courses and messages from WUR. Install the app via Google Play or the Apple App Store.

BYOD (Bring your own device/laptop)

As you’ve experienced this year, a laptop is indispensable for students. For activities such as computer practicals and groupwork the use of your own laptop (if they have the minimum laptop requirements) is the standard.

Also, for exams it is important to have a laptop that meets the WUR requirements, since next year more exams will take place on campus, likely on your own laptop. More information on your exams next year, will be provided by the course coordinators after the courses have started.

In need of a new laptop? With your student account, you can purchase a laptop at the WUR LaptopShop with extra service and a discount arranged by Wageningen University. Of course, it is also fine to bring your current or another laptop, but make sure to check whether your device meets the requirements and pay special attention when you choose to use a MacBook.

You can install software specific for your courses on your laptop through the WUR Appstore. And a license for Office365 is available for free at portal.office.com (with your WUR-login). Do come by at the ServicePoint IT in the Forum building to make sure your laptop is ready for use in courses and exams.

Improper use of a laptop for computer work can lead to CANS (complaints of arm, neck and/or shoulder). You can prevent this by using your laptop with the CANS/RSI set (laptop riser, keyboard, and mouse) that is available at a reduced fee in the WUR laptop shop. For all info on prevention of CANS, check Safety.wur.nl
